The first title of the proposed Ibis trilogy by Amitav Ghosh - Sea of Poppies was one of the most anticipated releases last year. Over the years Ghosh has built an impressive oeuvre and created a wide fan base among academia and common readers alike. His work is known for the dogged research and perseverance he pours into his writing, which probably has to do with his anthropology background, at the same time he never lets go of the basic human connect that infuses such life into his characters that avid readers can almost predict the way they will behave next. With such expectations this book was received and it does not disappoint, rather it reaffirms Ghosh's sterling status as the leading Indian author of English.
